So I was sad about Ruby being slow because I like the language. Then on reddit people were also talking about it being slow. Then someone piped up and said there was a VM for it called 'yarv' and it was in ruby 1.9 destined to be 2.0. I emerged ruby-cvs and viola!

So that's some welcome good news.
