Well, starting about a month ago I noticed talk popping up on planet Gentoo about some possible decline in Gentoo, probably related to bad or non existent PR. And then some people started taking note. Christel Dahlskjær launched a new Gentoo project, User Relations (userrel). And some of the community and devs have been getting together to bolster the public face of the community. Not that long ago some people said Gentoo needed to 'move on' from parts of it's heritage like Larry the Cow. So not too long ago and probably with that in mind LarryTheCow.net was launched as a news site for Gentoo, documenting all the cool and unannounced stuff going on in Gentoo. Putting a public face on all the cool work that the devs are doing and that may be going unnoticed. And now, LarryTheCow.org (Planet Larry) has launched. It is a planet of Gentoo users, and they are generously including my blog there. So I'm now being published. I feel very honoured and think it's super cool. Thanks. Also, Gentoo has just launched a beta Adopt a Dev project.
So yeah, I think these trends bode very well for Gentoo in the future. Flow of information is important. I think it's long been know that Gentoo has probably the best and friendliest forum with an amazing community, but now we are moving forward on several other important fronts. The coming years should be good for Gentoo and I look forward to many more years with this awesome distro.
