Last week I picked up a Targus Chill Mat before taking Nika, my laptop, to a LAN party. She's been having insane overheating problems, running up to the mid 90s (degrees celcius) before shutting down, under prolonged load. Plus she's uncomfortable to sit in my lap. Well this cheap little Chill Mat has made a pretty decent difference. It now keeps her running around 77 degrees, which is fine enough, and cools her quickly as soon as a load lets off. She performed flawlessly at the LAN party all night. I'm quite happy. Plus, the Mat itself is just fine to sit in my lap. So this makes my laptop much more usable again. Quiet worthwhile, especially at only $30. Much cheaper than a new laptop, or sending her in for potential fan repairs, which wouldn't be fully effective, because the expansion ram slot is uncooled weather the laptop cooling system is working properly or not.

Hey Dan
This accessory sounds pretty interesting… I’m looking at various Vancouver stores but they don’t list as low as $30 as at Targus. Did you buy directly from them?
Mine doesn’t overheat but I wouldn’t put it on my lap and my left palm feels the burrrn from the hdd on that side…

Well, that’s $30 US too. I don’t know 100% how much it cost because I gave Rob my gift card that I’d partially used and then he bought me the Chill Mat and an 8 port Dynex switch and I ended up owing him $7. So I guess $30 to $40.
Ah, but a little research shows Futureshop lists is as a Chill Pad, and at $29.99
