A slew of new

Well, I updated my desktop to GTK 2.8 (with cairo) first. It went pretty well. Only had to recompile firefox and mozilla sans movsvg. Everything else worked fine. Then did the same for my laptop. On my laptop I'd roughly say (using 'free') that it's using less memory. With a load of Evolution, Firefox, Liferea, and Gaim I'd go as far as to say it looks like it's using ~50MB less. But that's not a particularly fair or accurate benchmark.

What has made my desktop a lot faster was the 512mb ram stick I picked up for it at BestBuy yesterday while Rob and Alex bought laptops. Having 768mb ram means no more paging to the slow harddrive (the i8x0 sata driver doesn't support ioctrl for setting things yet) so everything is snappy. I am very pleased. And about about $0.20/mb of laptop ram, I'm pretty happy about the price.

Then we had an impromptu starcraft party. And I found out they now make computers windows 98 won't install on. Like my laptop. And better yet, windows 2000 and probably vanilla XP won't install on it either since none of them seem to have sata support. The win98 install worked, but the bootloader just kept saying "IO error on drive, please reboot". And I have to learn more about tun devices and bridging before I can get qemu to where I can play starcraft with it. So I was out last night. (I can always hope reactos will solve my problems one day...)
