Gentoo has been converting their PHP ebuild infrastructure to a new one to support parallel php4 php5 installations. They finally stabilized it and encouraged everyone to upgrade because the old one is deprecated. So I upgraded. What they didn't mention was that all the php libraries and etc that use the new system are still marked unstable. A bit of a worry when I first saw the incompatibilities, but then I figured it out. Still, annoying since you can't yet do a full stable upgrade. I know they're excited about this but that was just a little annoying. Oh well, transition was pretty damn smooth regardless and everything seems to be working fine. So kudos in general to them for the massive work they're had to do to switch over. Here's to many more years of Gentoo servers.
